Rubber Grace

Ohio mail artist Rubber Grace posted this to me in 1994; the postmark was too obscured to read, but the artwork itself is signed & dated. Grace started with a piece of a cardboard box, glued a cut-out of a tortoise head on one side, then painted over the whole thing creating a striking piece of artwork. Much the same method was used in another piece of mail art shown in this gallery-set, of a toad eating a toad as painted-over by Tim Mancusi. It's mere coincidence that both artists used the same technique for herpetological themes.

With a name like Rubber Grace one would expect most of this mail artist's work to be done with rubber stamps, but the same assumption could be made of the well-famed Rudi Rubberoid, & would be wrong.

The address side of this card is a collage that incorporates a photograph of Rubber Grace making a screamy-face. She's pretty cute too.
