Very often simplicity is the essence of a good piece of mail art. I presume Seiko carved the rat herself, & I presume the handmade paper she made herself, but she doesn't mention on the card if she did. In whatever case, the restrained minimalism of four letters, the rat, & the thickly textured paper, are brought together with perfection. I probably wouldn't've had sense enough to stop there. The address side of this card, postmarked 18 March 1994, has a Year of the Rat fortune that says in part "Most compatible with Dragons," to which Seiko has added an emphatic, "I'm a dragon." What a sweet gal.
