Garden Walk
of Autumn Azaleas & Rhododendronsportraits of
'Girard's Crimson' Azalea
The bright green leaves of 'Girard's Crimson'
evergreen azalea gain gorgeous red & purple hues
in late autumn, as shown in this November (2003) portrait. The reds increase through December, & the whole shrub
will remain colorfully leafed until spring greens return. This photo from earlier in November shows 'Girard's Crimson'
already flushed with reds, behind the Azalea called 'Youth'
which will begin to develop a few bright yellow leaves before
November ends but early in the month is still bright green.
The clump of greenery between the two azaleas is a variegated
columbine which remained leafy until close to December,
though all the other columbines in the garden had died back.Read more about this shrub on the main
