Tennis giant and iconic/legendary lesbian Martina Navratilova has a little chihuahua named Chloe (above left). She also has, a little fox terrier Bina (above right in black and white, and in-text photo) who lacks front legs and hops around like a kangaroo.
Other of her dogs include a Staffordshire bull terrier named Briseis, a French bulldog named Spike, Gracie a Japanese chin, a Rhodesian ridgeback who was her major protector, and many others, the majority rescues.
Martina, born in Czechlosovakia, today lives in Sarasota Florida and has often been involved with dog rescue organizations. She has been known to show up at tournaments with as many as six of her dogs in tow.
But she journeys most often with Chloe "my traveling dog." Chloe's first time on television was on The Today Show with Katie Couric in 2003, when she was still a pup.
Before she had Chloe, she travelled the world for sixteen years with a fox terrier named K.D. ("Killer Dog"), who is in Martina's lap in the b/w picture that shows her flanked by larger dogs. The press frequently called K.D. a chihuahua because he looked just like one.
K.D. frequently got it into his head to protect Martina's stuff. Monica Seles almost missed a match with Martina because K.D. had taken up a guard-dog position in front of the tennis rackets in the locker room. Every time Monica tried to get a racket, the dog snarled and snapped. She had to wait until Martina came and told the dog it was okay.
Martina once told a bevy of reporters, "There was a fan who yelled 'Come on Martina, do it for Chloe!' I'm like, 'You people know too much about me. You know the name of my dog.' It was pretty funny. I had to not acknowledge it because I wanted to keep my concentration, but it cracked me up inside."
