Hechicero Meron was a champion chihuahu photographed in 1938. In the second photo he's with his tiny four month old daughter, Austral Perote. The owner was "Mrs Powell" of Clapham Common, South London.

Powell was an early promoter and breeder helping to popularize the breed in England, exhibiting dogs as early as 1930, though 1937, when she possessed six imported champions. She not only exhibited at the major British dog shows, but sojourned to America to promote the breed and take additional awards.

At the outbreak of war she left London for the safety of the countryside, leaving her many dogs in capable hands. Alas, a bomb hit her Clapham Common home and killed every dog she had, which was long after lamented by many who thought the loss of her line a lasting tragedy. Powell herself was so grief-stricken that she had to go at once into a nursing home, from which she never left alive.
